Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands announces new hires and volunteer needs

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands announces the hiring of two new staff members to captain volunteer service opportunities within the organization.

Carla Brown joined STSM in November 2016 as the Crisis Outreach Coordinator in Sumter and Clarendon Counties. As the Crisis Outreach Coordinator, Carla is actively participating in community outreach and leading volunteer programs in Sumter and Clarendon Counties. Carla graduated from the University of Phoenix with her Master’s of Science in Administration of Justice and Security. Before working at STSM, Carla was the Dean of Academic Affairs at ITT Technical Institute.

Kelly Wuest joined STSM in November 2016 as the Volunteer Services Coordinator. In her role at STSM, Kelly is responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers in Richland, Lexington, and Newberry Counties. She received her Masters of Higher Education in Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in 2008. Prior to her work at STSM, Kelly worked at USC as the Leadership and Service Center Director.

Kelly and Carla are recruiting supportive adults in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Sumter, and Clarendon Counties who not only want to serve survivors of sexual assault and abuse, but take action against sexual violence in their community.

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands Volunteer Program’s 2016-2017 priority needs are to identify superheroes who can provide 24-hour crisis hotline and hospital accompaniment advocacy, facilitate group therapy sessions, assist in our office and with administrative projects, or educate community members about sexual assault prevention and STSM’s services at local events and presentations.
