Shop Local During SC’s Sales Tax Holiday – August 5-7

August 2, 2022

South Carolina’s annual Sales Tax Holiday is scheduled for this coming weekend, August 5-7.

During the annual Sales Tax Holiday, a variety of purchases are exempt from the state’s 6% Sales Tax and any applicable local taxes. Tax-free items range from clothing, accessories, and shoes to school supplies, backpacks, and computers. As long as an item is eligible, it is tax-free whether purchased in-store or online.

Before you start shopping online, consider your local options. There are great opportunities to purchase needed school supplies and other qualifying items locally. Items included in the sales tax holiday include school supplies, computers & printers, clothing & accessories, and certain bed & bath items.

The Sales Tax Holiday in South Carolina started in 2000 and in past years, shoppers have saved between $2 million and $3 million during the weekend.
