GREENVILLE, SC – Further establishing Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville as home to the premiere experts in pediatric orthopaedic care in the region, Dr. Keith Gettys has joined the hospital’s medical staff.

Dr. Gettys recently completed his fellowship in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Scoliosis at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, and earlier this year was the recipient of the esteemed T. Boone Pickens Award for Orthopaedics.

“We look forward to our patients immediately benefitting from his already-proven expertise, and are pleased to know he will change the lives of many children in the long, meaningful career that lies ahead of him,” said Dr. Michael Wattenbarger, Chief of Staff.

The addition of Dr. Gettys as the organization’s sixth full-time physician also cements Greenville Shriners Hospital’s position as one of the largest pediatric orthopaedic programs in the region.

“I am not only looking forward to the opportunity to advance the pediatric orthopedics field by caring for the needs of unique and complex patients, but also providing the best care for injuries and conditions that affect a larger demographic of the pediatric population,” Dr. Gettys said.

Dr. Gettys, a Greenville native, attended Mauldin High School, and received his undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry from Virginia Tech University. He attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine before completing a residency and fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Dr. Gettys joins Dr. Wattenbarger, along with fellow Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville pediatric orthopaedic surgeons T. Whitney Gibson, D.O.; Michael J. Mendelow, M.D.; Peter Stasikelis, M.D.; and David Westberry, M.D. to provide the highest quality of care to children with orthopaedic conditions regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
