Simpsonville fire department and DEA to host pre-holiday drug take back event on Oct. 24

October 19, 2026

As local households begin preparing for seasonal family gatherings and holiday visitors, the Simpsonville Fire Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help residents clear unneeded and expired medications out of home cabinets.

The community Drug Take Back Before the Holidays event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Simpsonville Activity & Senior Center.

The initiative offers a safe, anonymous, and environmentally conscious method for disposing of leftover prescription pills and expired medications before they can lead to accidental poisonings, misuse, or theft.

Free Medication Lock Boxes for Participants

To further promote household safety, organizers are providing a high-value incentive for participating residents: a free medication lock box will be given out with every bag of medication turned in, available while supplies last.

Lock boxes provide families with an essential layer of home security, ensuring that everyday maintenance prescriptions remain safely locked away from curious young children, teenagers, and visiting guests.
