Simpsonville woman named DSS April Employee of the Month

The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS) recently established a program to recognize staff members who perform their jobs exceptionally well, go above and beyond what is expected of them, and in doing so, demonstrates our core principles of competence, courage, and compassion. Lori Moody, an Assistant Supervisor in DSS Child Support Services Division, Child Care Region I in Greenville, was one of five selected for April.

Moody said she was very excited and thankful to be selected an employee of the month.

“I was very surprised and very grateful for this job,” she said. “I am also grateful for the people I work with at DSS.”

She has been with the Agency 20 years. “I have worked in Child Support in Greenville County and in the treatment unit of Child Protective Services, also in Greenville County. I have been with Child Care Licensing Region I since 1999,” Moody said.

When asked to describe what she does, Moody said: “Currently I am Assistant Supervisor for DSS Region I Child Care Licensing.  Region I licenses and regulates child care facilities for 10 different counties.  I am responsible for training new staff, assigning staff caseloads, assisting staff with cases and/or complaints in child care facilities, and issuing child care licenses, registrations or approvals.”

Her nomination states Moody “works well with everyone and demonstrates excellent customer service skills by maintaining professionalism, being helpful, and remaining courteous to all parties.  Ms. Moody is always the first to volunteer to get out quickly to handle volatile situations, and has received praise from her peers, constituents, and members of the General Assembly.  She is a tremendous asset to the agency.”

Honorees are selected by their managers for outstanding performance in one or several of the following areas:
•       Meets deadlines ahead of schedule.
•       Initiates ideas that positively impact staff or procedures.
•       Helps the Agency realize cost effective measures.
•       Performs well on special projects.
•       Provides “exceptional” customer service.
•       Motivates others to achieve and succeed.

Staff selected for the Employee of the Month Program are awarded with:
•       An invitation to join the State Director and the other honorees for lunch at the State Office in Columbia.
•       A dedicated parking space at their office location for the month
•       A photo and write-up displayed in the lobby of the State Office.
•       A write-up sent to the awardee’s community newspaper announcing the achievement.

Other April winners were Gamble Anderson, an attorney with Child Support Services in Florence County; Tara Bradshaw, Interim County Director for Williamsburg and Program Coordinator for Region IV Foster Family Licensing and Support Unit; Dominique Canty, an Adult Protective Services worker in Fairfield County; and Sherri B. Rogers, an information systems business analyst in the SC DSS Audit Division.
