Sip, shuffle and socialize: Press & Pointer to host mahjong ladies night
October 26, 2026Clack, clack, mahjong. That unmistakable sound of tiles being shuffled across a table is coming to Press & Pointer Coffee House on Thursday, Nov. 12, when the coffee shop hosts a Mahjong Ladies Night from 6 to 8 p.m.
Billed as an evening to “sip, shuffle and socialize,” the event invites women of every skill level to pull up a chair, grab a warm drink and try their hand at one of the fastest-growing social games in the country. Whether a guest can call a winning hand in her sleep or doesn’t yet know a dragon from a flower tile, there will be a seat at the table.
The night will feature both open play tables for experienced players and guided play tables for those who are newer to the game and would like a little coaching along the way. Players are asked to bring their 2026 National Mah Jongg League card, the official guide that lists each year’s winning hands.
Mahjong has enjoyed a major comeback in recent years, especially among women who have discovered that the game offers equal parts strategy, luck and good conversation. Clubs and game nights have popped up in coffee shops, living rooms and community centers across the South, and Press & Pointer is bringing that fun to its own tables.
“Mahjong is really about bringing people together,” said Evie Collins of Press & Pointer. “We wanted to create a cozy night where friends can play, laugh and maybe meet a few new friends over a cup of coffee.”
Tickets are $35 per person or $130 for a table of four. Each ticket includes drip coffee, tea service, a charcuterie cup and a ticket for a raffle drawing, giving guests one more chance to walk away a winner.
Space is limited, so those hoping to secure a seat are encouraged to reserve early. To RSVP, email [email protected].
Gather the girls, dust off the tile racks and get ready for an evening of good company, great coffee and plenty of friendly competition.
