Sistercare benefit to support survivors of domestic violence

October 7, 2016

Sistercare will hold the 14th annual Song Bird Café to benefit domestic violence survivors in the Midlands on October 20th.

The musical event, modeled after Nashville’s famous Bluebird Café where songwriters perform before a small audience in a quiet jam-session format, will be held at the USC Alumni Center, in the Vista, Columbia.

Advance tickets at $100 per person can be purchased by calling Sistercare at 803.926.0505 or at www.sistercare.org/events. The cost includes craft beer tasting, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and beer and wine bar. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the performance begins at 8 PM.

Performers for this year’s musical event include Drew Copeland and Ken Block of Sister Hazel and Emerson Hart of Tonic.

The Songbird Café is sponsored by the Lexington Medical Center, BlueCross BlueShield of SC, Southern Way Catering, and Mr. Tint Window Films.

“The musical artists’ generosity and our sponsors’ support give Sistercare the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of thousands of survivors and their children who turn to us for emergency and ongoing services,” said Nancy Barton, Sistercare Executive Director.

Sistercare is a United Way partner agency serving nearly 7,000 domestic violence survivors annually in Richland, Lexington, Kershaw, Fairfield and Newberry counties with emergency shelter, counseling for survivors and their children, court advocacy and transitional housing.

A report from the Violence Policy Center ranks South Carolina fifth in the nation for the rate of women killed by men.
