Sisters of Charity Foundation Awards $44,500 in Caritas Grants

COLUMBIA, SC – October 2, 2009 – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded 14 Caritas, totaling $44,500, to nonprofit and faith-based organizations across South Carolina.
Caritas grants are for organizations providing outreach services to the poor and marginalized. Designed for organizations with annual budgets of less than $250,000, these one-year grant awards do not exceed $3,000. The $44,500 awarded through the 14 grants will go to serve 12 South Carolina counties; Beaufort, Berkeley, Calhoun, Charleston, Chesterfield, Dorchester, Greenville, Horry, Jasper, Orangeburg, Pickens and Spartanburg.
“In light of difficult economic times, we hope these grants will make a small impact and benefit these organizations in meeting the immediate needs of the underserved in our state,” said Kevin Hall, board chair of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina.
There is one last opportunity for nonprofits to apply for a Caritas grant. The upcoming application deadline is the first Tuesday in November (November 3). Organizations wishing to apply for a Caritas grant should visit the Foundation’s Web site.
