Sisters of Charity Foundation of SC names Ericka Wooten Director of Culture and Values in new role

February 28, 2023

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina (SCFSC) announced Ericka Wooten has been selected to serve in a new role as the Director of Culture and Values.

In this expanded position, Wooten will ensure internal systems and culture, as well as the external work of the Foundation, strengthen and support the organization’s mission, core values, and Catholic identity. Additionally, Wooten will play an active role in the Foundation’s grantmaking process.

“For the past three years, the Foundation has done and continues to do a phenomenal job of intentionally uplifting and integrating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into all aspects of the Foundation’s work,” Wooten said. “I am excited and humbled to be a part of this growth opportunity to further elevate our Catholic identity and Catholic Social Teachings, both of which are central to our mission and values.”

Wooten has been with the Foundation for nearly five years, most recently serving as the Foundation’s Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. She will continue to lead the Foundation’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts.

“Ericka will continue her work to develop DEIB goals and objectives for the Foundation along with her new responsibilities to elevate and advance the Foundation’s mission and values through a deepened understanding of the Foundation’s Catholic identity and Catholic Social Teachings,” said Donna Waites, President of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina.

The new Director of Culture and Values position will also oversee the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) strategic imperative set forth by the Board of Trustees, which is to elevate and expand action and results in the diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging space as a driver of reducing poverty.

“I am so excited to embark on this next chapter of our DEIB journey,” said Rick Mendoza, chair of the Mission and Values Committee of the Board of Trustees. “The values of DEIB have always been connected in a tangible way to the work of the Foundation and now even more so through the lens of our Catholic identity and Catholic Social Teachings. Ericka’s new role signifies our commitment to continue to learn, share, and robustly embrace our values and vision of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, as we work toward a South Carolina where all people have the resources needed to thrive.”

Wooten graduated from the University of South Carolina Upstate with a Bachelor of Business Administration and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. She has over a decade of nonprofit experience and has served Providence Hospital and Providence Health in marketing, fund development, and assisting the Market CEO.
