Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina Announces Dee Dee Chewning to receive its 2015 Catalyst Award

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina will award Dee Dee Chewning the 2015 Catalyst Award.
The Catalyst Award was created by the Foundation to recognize an individual who exemplifies the qualities of a servant leader through volunteerism, community involvement, compassion and professional contributions. Working tirelessly for children in the Midlands, Chewning has received numerous awards including the Gubernatorial Citation for Efforts in Sexual Abuse Education and Prevention, South Carolina’s First School Nurse of the Year, and the first inductee to the South Carolina Association of School Nurses Hall of Fame. She was also a member of Governor Riley’s State-wide Task Force on School Health in 1985 and South Carolina’s First Member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of School Nurses.
In 1992 Chewning became the first director of Healthy Learners, a Ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, an organization dedicated to helping alleviate health related barriers to learning that children face who are without resources and are in need.
After her retirement in 2005, Chewning joined the Board of Trustees of the Sisters of Charity Foundation serving on various committees and eventually serving as Board chair and remains involved with the Foundation as a member of its Program Committee.
