August 19, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina (SOCFSC) partners with the United Way of York County (UWYC) on the creation of Carolina Academy York County. The Academy, based on the Foundation’s Carolina Academy model, provides resources and training to community leaders in the non-profit sector.

The Sisters of Charity Foundation’s Carolina Academy continues to have tremendous success in the non-profit community of Columbia, S.C. Since 2008, the Carolina Academy has become a place for community leaders, nonprofit practitioners and leaders, faith based groups, Foundation representatives, government and academia and other selected organizations to engage in a dynamic and energizing environment for gaining and sharing knowledge. The convening of people to find solutions to issues around poverty, systemic change and community improvement is at the core of the Foundation’s mission.

“The United Way of York County, S.C. is honored to partner with the Sisters of Charity Foundation in establishing the Carolina Academy for our area,” Rebecca Melton, President of UWYC, said. “The goal of our partnership is to provide a series of training opportunities for non-profits to strengthen and enhance their operations while allowing continuous learning to better serve those who are in need.”

“We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the United Way of York County. This partnership is an important extension of our Foundation’s capacity building program and our continuing effort to strengthen the nonprofits in the region,” Tom Keith, Foundation President, said.

The nonprofits in South Carolina are a valuable resource in our state. For this reason, we endeavor to invest deeply in them by providing educational opportunities to build organizational capacity.
