Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awards $172,000 to 10 Community Enrichment grantees

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has recently awarded ten Community Enrichment grants totaling $172,000, bringing the Foundation total to $332,000 for the year.
The Community Enrichment “open” grants process is designed to provide financial support to organizations addressing poverty. Applicants should have a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status and provide programs or services within the state of South Carolina. Grants are generally awarded in the $5,000-$20,000 range, and a requirement will be the submission of a specific budget and narrative to support the grant request. Awards are for one-year with no guarantee of additional funding in subsequent years. Funding requests may be for new programs, existing programs with proven success, strategic planning, collaborative projects, leverage or matching fund opportunities, or other justifiable programs.
The ten recently awarded Community Enrichment grantees are:
Charleston Area Senior Citizens Services Inc. – A financial planning, tracking, and case management service that identifies traditional and non-traditional resources for poor seniors. (Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester)
Harvest Hope Food Bank – This program provides children ages of 4 -14, that qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch at their local school, with a backpack of food each Friday during the school year. (Florence, Darlington, Lee, Marion)
Healing Species – Expansion of a character-based literacy program for elementary school children utilizing rescued dogs that are trained to interact with the children. (Lexington, Orangeburg)
Midlands Housing Alliance – Funding for operational support for this program that provides a variety of housing options and supportive services to homeless individuals.(Calhoun, Fairfield, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter)
Midlands Housing Trust Fund – Operational funding support for creation of affordable housing in the Midlands. (Calhoun, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry, Richland)
Midlands Middle College – Providing comprehensive and intensive career, leadership and soft skills training and mentoring to at-risk female senior high school students of Midlands Midland College. (Fairfield, Lexington, Richland)
Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands – A youth violence prevention program for middle and high school aged youth. (Richland, Greenville, Charleston, Florence, Aiken, Spartanburg)
The Free Medical Clinic – Providing primary care, limited specialty care, and pharmacy services to patients whose income is at or below 138% of the Federal poverty level. (Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Kershaw, Orangeburg)
The Women’s Shelter – Providing a safe environment for homeless women in crisis and the necessary resources to build strong and healthy lives. (South Carolina)
Work in Progress – Support to assist persons with a diagnosis of mental illness with obtaining, retaining and maintaining meaningful employment opportunities. (Lexington, Richland)
