Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina awards $76,194 to 25 Caritas Grantees

COLUMBIA, SC – The Sisters of Charity Foundation awards $76,194 to 25 Caritas grantees in the first cycle of 2015.
“In omnibus caritas” means In all things charity. Since its inception in 1851, the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine has sought to put into practice these simple but all-encompassing words. As a ministry of the Sisters, the Foundation offers Caritas Grant funds to be awarded to non-profit and faith-based organizations meeting the immediate needs of the poor in South Carolina.
The Caritas Grants program purpose is to provide support to organizations dealing with situational poverty or crisis poverty. The demand for food, clothing, shelter and free health programs as well as other immediate needs is expanding for organizations providing these services. Caritas Grant awards will be up to $5,000 for a one-year period.
The First Cycle Awards are:
Birthright of Charleston – ($5,000.00) Funding to purchase infant car seats for economically disadvantaged mothers. (Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Colleton)
Bluffton Self Help – ($3,000.00) Support for providing emergency financial assistance to those in need. (Jasper)
Camp Happy Days – ($5,000.00) Helping families of young cancer patients with emergency financial assistance. (South Carolina)
Christian Assistance Bridge – ($2,000.00) Funding to expand services provided to include Benefit Bank and Charity Tracker. (Richland, Fairfield)
Circle of Hope Ministries – ($2,000.00) A care center for the homeless providing hot meals, showers, laundry services, and a warming/cooling center during extreme weather conditions. (Beaufort)
East Cooper Meals on Wheels– ($5,000.00) Support for providing healthier meals and foods for health impaired seniors. (Charleston, Berkeley)
Fair Haven Home for Men – ($2,000.00) Funding to purchase new beds and exercise equipment for a shelter and rehabilitation program for homeless and addicted men. (South Carolina, Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester)
Friendship Place – ($3,000.00) Feeding the hungry daily with hot meals and bagged lunches. (Georgetown)
Golden Corner Food Pantry – ($3,000.00) Offering emergency and supplemental food to disadvantaged and low income senior citizens.(Oconee)
Great Present Food Bank – ($2,194.00) Funding to purchase a refrigerator and freezer for a food bank that serves the hungry.(Williamsburg, Georgetown)
Hands of Christ – ($5,000.00) Clothing and school supplies for needy children. (Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Williamsburg)
Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach – ($2,500.00) Providing emergency food, rental assistance, utility payments, prescription medicine, diapers, hygiene, transportation, and clothes to those in need. (Horry)
Helping Hands of Georgetown – ($5,000.00) Offering immediate relief and emergency support to Georgetown County residents living in poverty and crisis. (Georgetown)
Home Works of America – ($5,000.00) Free home repairs and safety upgrades for disadvantaged homeowners in rural areas of South Carolina. (Charleston, Georgetown, Lexington, Richland, Greenville, Aiken)
House of Refuge, Refuge Outreach Ministry – ($1,000.00) Transitional housing and support services for battered women and their children. (Florence, Darlington, Charleston, Lexington, Richland, South Carolina)
Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center – ($5,000.00) A shelter for female victims of domestic violence. (South Carolina, Clarendon, Sumter, Lee, Williamsburg, Florence)
Loaves & Fishes – ($2,000.00) A supplemental food source program providing fresh food to social service agencies. (Greenville)
Meals on Wheels Bluffton-Hilton Head – ($2,500.00) Delivering nourishing meals to the homebound. (Beaufort)
Midlands Holy Family Fund – ($3,000.00) Support for providing emergency assistance to those in need. (Richland)
North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry– ($3,000.00) Distributing food to individuals and families who are facing crisis situations.(Greenville)
Operation Home – ($1,000.00) Funding to complete critical home repairs for low income homeowners. (Charleston)
St. Christopher’s Children – ($2,000.00) Funding to provide clothing and medical care to low income children. (Georgetown)
Sumpter Free Health Clinic – ($1,500.00) Funding for a medication voucher program for patients in need. (Berkeley, Williamsburg, Georgetown, Charleston, Dorchester)
The Naomi Project – ($2,500.00) A transitional facility that offers assistance to homeless women who are in domestic abuse situations.(Florence, Darlington, Dillon, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Marion)
York County Free Clinic – ($3,000.00) A dental program aimed at providing restorative oral care to the uninsured. (York)
