Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals Announces 2007 Society of St. Luke Physicians

May 24, 2007

Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals inducted four physicians into the Society of St. Luke, a program that celebrates and honors selected members of the medical staff, at a ceremony on Tuesday, May 22.

Established in 2003, The Society of St. Luke recognizes physicians for their distinguished service to their patients, the mission of the hospitals and their service to the community.

The following physicians were inducted into The Society of St. Luke:

Dr. Jack H. Gottlieb, an internal medicine practitioner, received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 1962.  He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1966. Dr. Gottlieb completed his internship at Northwestern University and then served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Upon his return to the United States, Dr. Gottlieb completed his residency at the University of Miami.  In September 1972, he established his practice in Columbia.

Dr. Gottlieb has been a loyal supporter of Providence Hospitals, particularly the Heart Institute, since its open-heart surgery program was established in 1974.
