Six Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd Lawyers Graduate from Statewide Leadership Programs

CHARLESTON, SC – July 12, 2012 – Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., is pleased to announce that six attorneys have successfully completed and recently graduated from leadership programs throughout South Carolina.

CHARLESTON

Jenny Costa Honeycutt, an associate and litigator in the firm’s Charleston office, graduated from the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Leadership Charleston program on June 21.  The ten-month course educated participants about the realities, opportunities and challenges of the region, and the process to bring about positive changes in the Lowcountry.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Ms. Honeycutt’s practice focuses primarily on representing construction-related entities in a wide range of matters from contract formation to payment disputes to defect litigation.  She is a board member of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., Carolinas Chapter, and previously served on Trident United Way’s Community Investment Review Team (CIRT) LINKS to Success. Ms. Honeycutt graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2004, and received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Meredith College.

COLUMBIA

Lindsey Carlberg Livingston, a shareholder and litigator in the firm’s Columbia office, graduated from the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Columbia program on June 12.  The Class of 2012 selected the Free Medical Clinic as its community service project with the goal of refurbishing the clinic and collecting needed supplies and funds to help the operation of the center.  The class provided more than 1,500 hours of services, raised over $12,000 for supplies and $30,000 for facility improvements.

A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Ms. Livingston’s practice focuses on bankruptcy matters and creditors’ rights litigation.  She represents lenders in commercial and consumer bankruptcies and related litigation in federal, state and bankruptcy courts.  She was named one of “The Rising Stars” for Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights in Columbia by South Carolina Super Lawyers magazine in 2012, and is chair-elect of the Carolina chapter of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation.  Ms. Livingston received her J.D. magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2004, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from Wofford College in 2001.

(Tiger) Wells, a shareholder and public finance attorney in the firm’s Columbia office, graduated from The Riley Institute’s Midlands Diversity Leadership Initiative on June 6.  His group’s project, “Embrace SC, “ created a web-based resource for companies targeting and recruiting diverse candidates to the Midlands.  The website provides links to organizations, activities and relevant resources in the Midlands that demonstrate the region’s embrace of diverse individuals and perspectives.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Mr. Wells advises clients, including towns, cities and counties, school districts, government agencies, water and sewer districts, and special purpose districts issue bonds as a means to finance various capital projects.  He is a board member of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Midlands chapter of the March of Dimes, the Columbia Development Corporation, the Eau Claire Cooperative Health Centers, and the Midlands Education and Business Alliance (MEBA); he is also a graduate of the Leadership Columbia Class of 2011.  Mr. Wells is a 2004 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, and earned his B.S., cum laude, from Morehouse College in 2000.

GREENVILLE

title=Boyd B. (Nick) Nicholson, Jr., a shareholder and litigator in the firm’s Greenville office, graduated from the Greenville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Greenville program on May 24.  His team selected the Harvest Hope Food Bank BackPack Program for its community project.  The group raised over $32,000, with  more than $25,000 in in-kind gifts.  They created literature and a video for Harvest Hope to use to increase public awareness about the nonprofit organization. 

The Cheraw native leads the law firm’s Governmental, Utilities and Nonprofit Practice Group and practices primarily in the areas of public procurement, local government law and construction law.  Mr. Nicholson counsels government agencies with respect to Freedom of Information Act issues, construction and general contract matters, constitutional issues, procedural issues, bonding issues, and general liability matters..

Mr. Nicholson, a Greer resident, serves on the board of the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina.  He earned his J.D., from the University of South Carolina (USC) in 1992, and his B.A., magna cum laude, also from USC in 1988.

(Meg) Scoopmire, a special counsel in the firm’s Greenville office, graduated from Leadership South Carolina on April 11.  For its community service project, the Class of 2012 partnered with Special Olympics South Carolina in support of the 2012 Winter Games held in Charleston on March 2-4, by promoting the games through fundraising and by volunteering throughout the games.

Ms. Scoopmire, a Greenville, South Carolina native, leads the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group.  Her practice concentrates on commercial real estate transactions and commercial finance, including asset-based lending, construction financing, real estate financing, equipment financing, and government-guaranteed loans.  She is a designated attorney for the U.S. Small Business Administration Development Company Loan Program (504).

Ms. Scoopmire is co-president and a board member of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Upstate.  She also serves on the board of United Ministries where she chairs the Volunteer and Church Relations Committee and on the board of the Friends of Springwood Cemetery.  She received her J.D., in 1998, from the University of South Carolina, and her B.A., from Furman University in 1991. 

title=Kimberly Witherspoon, an associate and public finance lawyer in the firm’s Greenville office, graduated in Class XIII from The Riley Institute’s Upstate Diversity Leaders Initiative on June 13.  Her group, the “Dream Connectors,” provides seventh grade students, primarily those from less advantaged backgrounds, the opportunity to learn about diverse career opportunities available in the Upstate. The project consists of pilot programs that will connect students at the Hughes Academy of Science and Technology and Lakeview Middle School with Upstate businesses, including Greenville Hospital System, BMW, and Michelin. 

A native of New Zion, South Carolina, Ms. Witherspoon works closely with senior members of the firm’s public finance team as bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, credit enhancer’s counsel, and corporate counsel in multiple financial structures.

She is a board member of the Greenville Chautauqua and The Upstate Network, an auxiliary of the Urban League of the Upstate, and is the Leadership Chair of the Greenville Chamber’s Professionals United for Leadership and Social Enrichment (PULSE).  Ms. Witherspoon is also Vice-C
hair of the Junior League of Greenville’s Junior Volunteers committee and is active with the United Way’s African American Leadership Council.  She earned her J.D., from Georgetown University Law Center in 2009, and received a B.A., magna cum laude, from Furman University in 2006.
