Sixty-three top 100 players headline loaded Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship Field

February 24, 2020

The fifth annual Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, which will be played Feb. 28 – March 1 at TPC Myrtle Beach, will feature a 90-player field that is the strongest in event history.

The tournament includes boys and girls events and the field will include 63 top 100 juniors, including Michael Brennan (Leesburg, Va.), the 2018 boys champion and the runner-up last year. A Wake Forest University signee, Brennan is America’s third-ranked junior boy, according to Golfweek.

Michael Brennan

Brennan is the only player to win three consecutive Middle Atlantic Amateur titles (2017, 2018, 2019), and he is the reigning Virginia Men’s State Amateur Champion.

Sixteen of the 30 girls competing in the 54-hole, college-style event are ranked among America’s top 100 juniors by either Golfweek or Junior Golf Scoreboard, and 47 of the 60 boys are top 100 players.

Brennan will be challenged by a pair of fellow top 10 players – No. 7 Maxwell Ford (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) and No. 8 Tyler Wilkes (Tampa, Fla.), a University of Florida signee. Georgia signee J.T. Herman (Hilton Head, S.C.) is the 11th-ranked junior and enters the event among the favorites as well.

Arizona State signee Ashley Menne (Surprise, Ariz.), the 2018 runner-up, is the highest ranked girl in the field at No. 25. Nicole Adam (Pinehurst, N.C.), who will be playing at the University of North Carolina in the fall, and South Florida signee Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) are among a host of players expected to contend for the girls title.

“The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship will feature one of the strongest fields in junior golf,” Tournament Director Scott Tomasello said. “TPC Myrtle Beach will allow players to test themselves on a layout that is among America’s best public courses, and we look forward to another great tournament.”

The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship is a 54-hole, college style event that has quickly grown into one of the top junior events in America.

With Johnson’s support, the tournament provides players a PGA Tour-like experience, and the opportunity to test themselves against a premier field.

A significant part of the event’s appeal is TPC Myrtle Beach, one of the Grand Strand’s most decorated layouts. TPC Myrtle Beach has hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship and been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest, making it an ideal venue to test golf’s rising young stars.

The Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship is being sponsored by Founders Group International, the Dustin Johnson Golf School, and Golf Tourism Solutions.

Johnson’s involvement with the tournament reflects his long-time commitment to junior golf, particularly in South Carolina, where he grew into one of the world’s best players. Through the Dustin Johnson Foundation, which is headquartered in Myrtle Beach, Johnson has donated more than $500,000 to junior golf, sponsoring numerous events throughout the state and helping cover entry costs for kids who need financial assistance.
