Smith Moore Leatherwood Attorney Earns Real Property Certification

November 23, 2009

E. Garrett Walker earns board certification as specialist in commercial law and real property

GREENSBORO, NC  -November 23, 2009 – E. Garrett Walker, a partner and member of Smith Moore Leatherwood’s real estate practice group in its Greensboro, NC, office, has been certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a Board Certified Specialist in Real Property Law: Business, Commercial and Industrial Transactions.

According to the North Carolina State Bar, the certification of lawyers as specialists helps the public identify lawyers who have experience and skill in a certain area of practice.  In order to become certified as a commercial real estate specialist, a substantial portion of the attorney’s practice for at least five years must involve commercial real estate matters and the attorney must successfully complete an examination administered by the North Carolina State Bar and be favorably evaluated by other lawyers.

At Smith Moore Leatherwood, Walker focuses his practice on representing clients involved in various types of commercial real estate transactions.  He routinely represents commercial real estate lenders, including banks and life insurance companies, in connection with commercial real estate financing transactions. He also represents landlords and tenants in connection with office, retail and flex space leases and sellers and purchasers of commercial real estate properties.

As one of only fourteen North Carolina lawyers currently recognized as a Fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, Walker has been routinely listed by Woodward/White as one of The Best Lawyers in America® and by Law & Politics as a North Carolina Super Lawyer.  He received his BA degree in English and his JD degree with Highest Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
