Smith Moore Leatherwood Elects Five Attorneys To Partnership

GREENVILLE, SC – Smith Moore Leatherwood announced attorneys Henry M. Gallivan, Jr., Patrick M. Kane, Jason D. Maertens, Travis W. Martin and David J. Neill have been elected to the firm’s partnership as of Jan. 1, 2015. The new partners are located in three of the firm’s seven locations and represent a range of practice areas. With the new additions, there are now 105 partners in the firm.

Gallivan advises corporations, private equity firms, entrepreneurs, and family businesses in a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including business acquisitions and sales, financing transactions, and ownership and control issues. He is focused on helping businesses at all stages, from formation and raising capital through an exit event or succession plan.  In addition, Gallivan represents financial institutions and borrowers in commercial loans and other financing transactions.

Maertens has a wide-ranging practice that includes representing businesses and individuals in a number of areas, including business litigation, insurance coverage disputes, professional liability defense, and construction.

Martin is a litigator who represents clients in a variety of areas, including medical malpractice, products liability, and commercial litigation. Martin has tried cases to verdict before juries and judges, and has significant experience with alternative dispute resolution, having been involved in arbitrations and mediated cases on behalf of clients on numerous occasions.

Kane is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group and appellate practice group. He routinely handles complex litigation in both state and federal courts and is also regularly involved in appeals in the North Carolina Appellate Courts and the Fourth District Court of Appeals. Kane represents municipalities in labor and employment, constitutional and contract litigation, and is frequently involved in litigation on behalf of entities in the sports and entertainment industry.

Neill has a multi-faceted practice dedicated to guiding clients through the many challenges of commercial real estate development. His work encompasses all phases of development including acquisition, title, finance and regulatory approval. A member of the NC Bar Association’s Real Property and Zoning Planning and Land Use Sections, Neill represents property owners, developers, lenders, and municipalities throughout North Carolina with issues arising from zoning and subdivision petitions, special use permits, variances and appeals.
