Columbia, SC based Argand Energy Solutions Donates and Installs System

COLUMBIA, SC – April 10, 2009 -“Solar water heating makes sense now more than ever,” said Chris Salmon, Operations Manager of Columbia, SC-based, Argand Energy, “and we thought a Habitat for Humanity house offered a great opportunity to showcase this solution.”

The house is being built at 1029 Rocky Knoll Dr., in the Rock Gate subdivision in north Columbia. Habitat is building the house for Shanika Griffin and her family. As soon as the water heater and solar panels are installed, the carpet will go in and the house will be ready for the recipients to move in.

Steve Davis, Humanity’s manager for this project, said “Habitat wants to do more in the way of green building and when Argand offered to do this we couldn’t turn it down. This is great for the homeowner because it will save them a lot of money each month on their electric bill.”

A solar water heater uses solar thermal collectors to heat a transfer fluid ( 40% food grade glycol and 60% distilled water) that circulates thru a closed loop from the heat exchanger (attached to an 80-gallon water heater) to the roof and back again. The heat is transferred to the tank as the sun shines and the insulated tank holds the heat after the sun goes down.
