September 14, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – Camp Happy Days is proud to announce that we were the featured charity for the 2015 Taste of the South Gala, an annual black-tie charity gala in Washington, D.C. Taste of the South was founded in 1982 in a dual desire to bring some “southern hospitality” to Washington, D.C., and to establish a fundraiser for deserving charities. Camp Happy Days is a nonprofit located in Charleston, SC that provides services and programs for children battling cancer throughout the state and aims to ease the emotional, psychological and financial burdens associated with pediatric cancer.

“We were thrilled to sponsor Camp Happy Days for our 2015 gala,” said Chelsee Woodey, the 2015 Taste of the South Committee chairman. “Camp Happy Days’ mission that every child battling cancer should have the opportunity to attend summer camp and cost free year round programs is truly a worthy cause. This great organization gives families facing difficult circumstances the chance to strengthen bonds and build lasting memories together. Our donation to Camp Happy Days, thanks to the support of our many sponsors, will help more pediatric cancer patients and their families enjoy this experience.” This year, the Taste of the South Gala was able to give a generous donation of $194,638 to Camp Happy Days in support of their programs and services.

“We are so thankful to have been selected as the featured charity for the Taste of the South 2015 Gala.  It will make a tremendous difference to the cost free year round programs including our flagship program Summer Camp that we are able to offer to our children and families,” said Cindy Hay Johnson, Executive Director of Camp Happy Days.

In addition to Camp Happy Days, a portion of the proceeds from this year’s gala went go to support Hands on DC, as well as 12 additional charities across the South.

Taste of the South, a Washington, D.C.-based charity founded in 1982, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Over the past 32 years, Taste of the South has donated over $4 million to Southern charities.  We are privileged to have an Honorary Congressional Host Committee consisting of the Members of Congress from 13 Southern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky,Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
