South Carolina Association of School Administrators Announces National Finalist

CHARLESTON, SC – August 5, 2009 – The South Carolina Association of School Administrators announced today that Lucy Beckham, principal of Wando High School and the 2009 SCASA Secondary Principal of the Year, has been named as one of three national finalists by the National Association of Secondary School Administrators.   Ms. Beckham will be flown to Washington, DC, to be interviewed by a national panel of judges comprised of education and business leaders.  The 2010 NASSP National Principal of the Year winner will be announced October 16th at an awards ceremony in Arlington, Virginia.

“Lucy Beckham is an outstanding leader and visionary,” said Molly Spearman, executive director of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.  “We are very excited that the national organization chose one of our outstanding South Carolina principals as a finalist for this prestigious award.”

Beckham has been an educator for more than 33 years.  She has been an administrator for 15 years and has been principal at Wando High School since 1998 which is in the Charleston County School District.
