South Carolina Chamber of Commerce praises passage of USMCA

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce (SC Chamber) praised Congress for passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) today, sending it to President Trump for signature. More than 14,300 manufacturing jobs in South Carolina depend on manufacturing exports to Canada and Mexico. Without tariff-free trade across North America backed by a strong trade agreement, SC’s manufactured goods exports to Canada and Mexico could face between $293 million and $1.1 billion in extra taxes – causing businesses to lose sales and potentially cut jobs.
“This is an important day for businesses across South Carolina,” said Ted Pitts, President and CEO of the SC Chamber. “Having a strong trade relationship with our closest neighbors, Canada and Mexico, is key for jobs and the economy. Both the President and Congress should be commended for their work on USMCA. This is an example showing that when the Administration and Congress put politics aside and work together, it benefits everyone.”
