South Carolina ETV to premiere Healing with Grace as part of “Never Forgotten: The Emanuel Nine” commemoration

June 16, 2025

South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) will premiere the broadcast special Healing with Grace on June 19 at 8 p.m. on ETV. The one-hour special will also be available for streaming via the SCETV websiteSCETV App and PBS App.

A powerful and reflective broadcast, Healing with Grace is part of SCETV’s “Never Forgotten: The Emanuel Nine” initiative, commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the 2015 tragedy at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Charleston. On June 17, 2015, nine worshippers were killed and five others endured unimaginable trauma but survived during a Bible study at the historic church. As the nation reflects on the legacy of the Charleston tragedy, Healing with Grace seeks to ensure this and other brutal tragedies are never forgotten. The program fosters healthy conversations, asks hard questions, and encourages ongoing awareness, education and action.

The special includes a range of voices from those personally impacted and those working to carry forward the spirit of the people whose lives were forever changed through action and advocacy. Among those featured are Polly Sheppard, a survivor of the shooting, who speaks candidly about faith, trauma and the continuing journey toward healing; Rev. Sharon Risher, daughter of victim Ethel Lance, who discusses loss and public grief; and Rev. Eric Manning, current senior pastor of Mother Emanuel AME Church, who reflects on leading the congregation through remembrance and renewal. Additional powerful stories from family, pastors, advocates and community leaders help preserve the memory of the tragedy at Mother Emanuel. Additional related segments will air separately throughout June on SCETV platforms.

Ahead of the broadcast premiere, SCETV will host a special in-person screening of Healing with Grace at the SCETV studios in Columbia on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Attendees will also have an opportunity to contribute their own reflections as part of SCETV’s Voices Collected initiative—a community storytelling project honoring the legacy of the Emanuel Nine.

SCETV launched Voices Collected as a community storytelling platform, providing individuals from across the state and nation an opportunity to contribute personal reflections, memories or responses to the legacy of the Emanuel Nine. Submissions will be curated for use in upcoming broadcast segments, podcasts, educational materials and on social media platforms.

Throughout June, SCETV will present additional programming related to “Never Forgotten: The Emanuel Nine” across its television, radio and digital platforms. News reports and special features on This Week in South Carolina and South Carolina Lede will further explore justice, legacy and community resilience.
