South Carolina Federal celebrates 80th anniversary with free member event

October 14, 2016

South Carolina Federal Credit Union has spent 2016 celebrating 80 years of member service. To top off the festivities, the credit union is inviting members to join them on October 20, 2016 for a day at the South Carolina State Fair, free of charge!

Interested members and joint account holders, in good standing with the credit union, are able to come into any Columbia area financial center to receive their free ticket for the fair.

A yearlong advertising campaign, 80 Pearls of Wisdom, has shared wit and wisdoms a company acquires over eight decades of serving its community via print, billboards, radio and social messaging. Member appreciation events were also held throughout the year at each of the 17 credit union locations in the state.

Pearl #80 of the sound advice reminds, “It’s easy to take your community for granted. Don’t.”

The credit union was founded in 1936 as Charleston Navy Shipyard Federal Credit Union by 14 shipyard workers who each contributed $5 each, for a $70 beginning. By coming together, they formed a member-owned financial cooperative to provide services in the best interest of the membership. This is the model we maintain today to serve over 150,000 members.
