South Carolina Federal Credit Union Awards $7,500 in Scholarships

N. CHARLESTON, SCSouth Carolina Federal Credit Union awarded $7,500 in scholarship prizes to three area students.

  • Megan Hunt received the 1st place prize of $4,000. Hunt is a rising senior at Clemson University, where she majors in Genetics and Biochemistry.
  • Antonio Rojas-Rodriguez received the 2nd place prize of $2,500. Rojas-Rodriguez recently graduated from Stratford High School and will attend College of Charleston in the fall.
  • Samantha Bantly received the 3rd place prize of $1,000. Bantly recently graduated from South Carolina Governor’s School for Arts & Humanities and will attend Virginia Commonwealth University’s Art Foundation program in the fall.

“In the financial industry, we strive to make strong investments and I believe there is no greater asset than our students and next-generation leaders,” said Scott Woods, President & CEO, South Carolina Federal.  “Our credit union is committed to the success of our community and our annual scholarship competition is always a strong indicator that the future is bright.”

Candidates were required to submit an application, letter of recommendation, transcript and written essay.  In the essay, students shared how they have personally demonstrated the credit union’s cooperative philosophy of “People Helping People.” The top three students were selected, from a pool of 150 applicants, and judged by panels of both internal and external judges.
