South Carolina Federal Credit Union Awards $7,500 in Scholarships

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – South Carolina Federal Credit Union awarded $7,500 in scholarship prizes to three students.

  • Ariel Jackson received the 1st Place prize of $4,000. Jackson attends West Ashley High School and plans to attend the University of Chicago in the fall.
  • Justin Herp received the 2nd Place prize of $2,500. Herp attends the College of Charleston, majoring in Accounting.
  • Caryn Ramelb received the 3rd Place prize of $1,000. Ramelb attends Ashley Ridge High School and plans to attend the University of South Carolina in the fall.

“Being a locally based credit union, there is no greater investment than in the future of our community,” said Scott Woods, President & CEO, South Carolina Federal.  “Seeing the applications year after year for these awards is a testament to the bright and talented youth that will soon be our leaders. As South Carolina Federal, we’re honored to help them along the way.”

The candidate pool of 160 was required to submit an application, letter of recommendation, transcript and written essay.  In the essay, students shared how they have personally demonstrated the credit union’s cooperative philosophy of “People Helping People.” The top three students were selected via panels of both internal and external judges.
