South Carolina Future Minds Launches Statewide Talent Competition

Who’s got star power?

COLUMBIA, SC – February 2, 2011 –  South Carolina Future Minds is kicking off the new year by launching astatewide video talent contest for public school students. Videos ofstudents showcasing their skills may be submitted for preliminaryjudging, and a vote by the general public will determine the winner.

The winning student or students will be invited to perform live at the 2011 South Carolina Teacher of the Year celebration on April 27, 2011 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. SCETV will film andbroadcast the event across the South Carolina TimeWarner Cable system.  This could be the break for students aspiring to be the next Hootie…Dizzy Gillespie… Andie McDowell… Steven Colbert… or other South Carolinatalent.

“This is a great opportunity for thetalent blooming in our public schools to be seen and appreciatedstatewide,” said Trip DuBard, SC Future Minds’ executive director.“We’re expecting to see some really exciting performances come from thiscontest.”

The contest is open to public school students between 1st and 12th grades in all South Carolina school districts. Entries may be submitted by anyone age 18 or over.

The submission period for video entriesbegins February 1, 2011 and ends March 15, 2011. Preliminary judgingwill begin March 16, 2011 and finalists will be selected soon after. Atthat time, public voting via Facebook will begin.

The winner will be announced on April1, 2011. Viewers may cast their vote for each video one time per dayduring the voting period. There are no age restrictions on voting.

Videos can be uploaded through South Carolina Future Minds’ Facebook page by clicking the “Contest” tab at http://www.facebook.com/southcarolinafutureminds.Only those age 18 and older may submit a video. Videos must be at leastthirty seconds in length and may not exceed five minutes in length.
