To celebrate this landmark milestone, The Honorable Herbert Fielding and The Honorable Bernard Fielding and their family will accept the pioneer award on behalf of the generations who have worked to ensure Fielding’s longevity and success in the funeral home business. Fielding is a great example of the tenacity and perseverance required to succeed as a minority-owned firm. This business is a reflection of the three generations (going into four soon) who have undertaken the tremendous responsibility of leading a family-owned business.

Established in Charleston, SC in 1912, founder Julius P.L. Fielding, former Senator Herbert Fielding, and now former Judge Bernard Fielding have each led the business to continued growth, living up to the company’s motto, “He profits most who serves best.” “It’s a rare feat that any minority-owned firm reaches 100 years of business. We are especially honored to recognize the fine folks of Fielding Home for Funerals. They set a tremendous example for other businesses to follow,” said Cheryl Salley, project director of the MBDA Business Center – Columbia, SC.

Additional MED Week awardees include Research Technologies, Inc. (manufacturer of the year), Marbella’s (retail firm of the year) and U.S. General Services Administration (procurement award). The luncheon will also pay tribute to the late Melvin Leroy Outen, Sr., founder of Outen Fencing Services.

During the luncheon, U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s The Honorable Anton Gunn will also deliver remarks regarding the event theme “Job Creation in America: Create it Here – Sell it Everywhere!”, specifically focusing on the significance that small and disadvantaged businesses have on building our weakened economy.

Join business leaders and political representatives from across the state as they honor minority business during the awards luncheon, in addition to strategic morning and afternoon sessions led by renowned teaming specialist Ralph Thomas, III, Esq.
