South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center celebrates milestone surgery
February 21, 2024The South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center performed the 9,000th bariatric surgery since opening 25 years ago.
This milestone comes from a team of the most experience bariatric surgeons in South Carolina. The 9,000th surgery was performed by Marc Antonetti, MD, FACS. This was also a milestone for Antonetti — it was the 1,300th gastric sleeve procedure he has performed during his time with South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center.
Achieving such significant milestones in bariatric surgery reflects not only the expertise of the surgical team but also the importance of comprehensive post-surgical care. At the South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center, attention to post-operative recovery is paramount to ensure long-term success for bariatric patients.
For many patients, additional issues such as excess skin or conditions like gynecomastia, which can result from significant weight loss, may require further attention. In these cases, consulting with specialized centers like the Gynecomastia center of boston can be an essential part of the recovery process.
These centers offer expertise in addressing such concerns, helping patients enhance their physical appearance and feel more confident in their post-surgery bodies. By addressing these issues with specialized care, patients can achieve not just weight loss success but also a renewed sense of self.
Effective post-surgical care involves careful monitoring and management of various aspects of recovery, including nutrition, pain control, and wound care. One critical component of this process is NG/OG tube placement, which is often necessary to support patients in their early recovery stages, ensuring proper nutrition and aiding in the healing process.
By focusing on these essential elements of post-operative care, the center helps patients achieve the best possible outcomes and maintain the benefits of their bariatric surgery long-term.
In South Carolina, obesity and being overweight are complex, serious and costly public health issues that affect two out of three South Carolina adults. That’s according to South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Many people have tried to treat it on their own, but sometimes diet and exercise is not enough.
“We’re excited about this milestone because it shows our commitment to helping our patients change their lives,” said Marc Antonetti, MD, FACS. “We’ve worked to help South Carolinians improve their health for the past 25 years, and we’re looking forward continuing to do that.”
Weight loss surgery not only treats obesity, but can treat other conditions like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and acid reflux. In addition, surgery greatly reduces the risk of death from cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases.
South Carolina Obesity Surgery Center recently celebrated their 25th anniversary of serving the Midlands at Lexington Medical Center. The board-certified bariatric surgeons work to help patients accomplish their weight loss goals and change their lives.
