South Carolina Philharmonic announces 2026–2027 season: Find Your Sound
April 30, 2026The South Carolina Philharmonic announces its 2026–2027 season, Find Your Sound, a compelling lineup of concerts exploring identity, connection, and the power of music to reflect the human experience. The season at the Koger Center for the Arts includes six Capital Concerts alongside a diverse array of concerts designed to engage audiences of all interests and ages. Together, the programs span centuries of music—from beloved orchestral masterworks to video game and cinematic favorites.
The season opens with one of its most anticipated special events, Video Games in Concert (Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 7:30 PM). This one-night-only performance transforms the concert hall into a cinematic gaming experience, featuring music from Halo, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider, World of Warcraft, Kingdom Hearts, and more. Blending nostalgia, adrenaline, and storytelling, the program celebrates the scores that defined a generation—no resets, no extra lives.
Among the Capital Concert highlights is The Golden Age of Hollywood (Saturday, February 6, 2027 at 7:30 PM), featuring guest violinist Geneva Lewis. This program brings iconic film music to life with Bernstein’s On the Town and West Side Story Dances, Korngold’s Violin Concerto, and Herrmann’s Vertigo Suite, offering audiences a powerful live experience of cinema’s most unforgettable scores. The season concludes with Out of This World (Saturday, April 17, 2027 at 7:30 PM), featuring saxophonist Timothy McAlister. This finale pairs Holst’s The Planets with James Lee III’s Abiding Legacy, a tribute to South Carolina astronaut Ronald McNair, honoring his legacy 40 years after the Challenger disaster. The program reflects both the vastness of space and the enduring impact of human achievement.
Additional highlights of the Capital Concert Series include Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, alongside Visions of Humanity and Unity, a new work commissioned as part of the nationwide America 250 initiative. In addition to the Capital Concert Series, the Philharmonic presents several special events at the Koger Center, including Home for the Holidays and Family Time with the Phil, offering festive and family-friendly experiences for the community.
