South Carolina School Counselor of the Year

The Palmetto State School Counselor Association announces the 2020 School Counselor of the Year, Dr. Donna Huger

Huger, Director of School Counseling at Dutch Fork High School in Lexington-Richland School District Five is a National Board Certified Counselor.  She has served as a Director of Counseling in several high schools across the state. She has been instrumental in helping the school counseling programs of several of these schools receive the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) distinction.  

In addition to her role at Dutch Fork High School, she is also an adjunct profession in the Counselor Education Program at South Carolina State University.  She believes in the power of a school counseling program to impact the academic, social/emotional and career paths of all students. 

The purpose of the School Counselor of the Year Award is to recognize persons who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to school counseling and have had an impact on the profession and their students at the local, state, or national level. 

The Palmetto State School Counselor Association (PSSCA) is a statewide nonprofit organization. PSSCA helps advance the profession of school counseling by assisting South Carolina school counselors with guiding their students toward academic achievement, career planning and social/emotional development in order to help today’s students become tomorrow’s productive, contributing members of society.
