South Carolina State Parks Invites Kids to Read with a Ranger This Summer

June 10, 2026

South Carolina State Parks is inviting children across the state to kick off their summer with its Reading with a Ranger program, a free summer reading initiative that combines books, the outdoors and the chance to earn prizes.

Participation is simple. Families begin by downloading the program tracker, or passport, from the South Carolina State Parks website. Children then attend five Reading with a Ranger programs over the course of the summer, bringing their passport to each program to collect a stamp.

Once a child has collected all five stamps, completed passports can be submitted by email to [email protected]. Participants who finish the program will receive a certificate and a prize. All completed passports must be submitted by September 10, 2026.

Twelve parks across the state are participating this year, including several in the Upstate region.

Participating parks:

  • Hampton Plantation State Historic Site
  • Hunting Island State Park
  • Huntington Beach State Park
  • May Forest State Park
  • Myrtle Beach State Park
  • Oconee State Park
  • Oconee Station State Historic Site
