South Carolinians can now contribute to Habitat for Humanity when doing state taxes

A revision to state tax form 1-330, “2016 Contributions For Check-offs” has made it easy for residents to support Habitat for Humanity in South Carolina when filing their taxes. The form now lists the South Carolina Association of Habitat for Humanity Affiliates among the 17 tax-deductible donations that can be made when taxes are filed.
Donations will help Habitat affiliates across South Carolina improve the lives of the families they serve. These affiliates actively work to eliminate poverty housing and improve communities. To date, the 36 affiliates in 46 counties in South Carolina have:
• Built more than 2,400 homes in South Carolina.
• Served and housed more than 10,000 South Carolina children and adults.
• Invested over $200 million in affordable housing throughout the State of South Carolina.
• Hosted thousands of volunteers who have contributed millions of volunteer hours.
Greg Thomas, Executive Director for South Carolina Association of Habitat Affiliates, said this is the first time his organization has been listed on the form.
“Last year, there were more than 2 million returns filed in South Carolina,” Thomas said. “I know it is wishful thinking, but imagine the impact it could make if everyone gave only a dollar.”
