South Lake Family Dental Welcomes Dr. Marissa Whitehead

July 30, 2012

LEXINGTON, SC – South Lake Family Dental, a dental practice in Lexington dedicated to quality care and the comfort of its patients, recently welcomed Dr. Marissa Whitehead, DMD, to its team.

Dr. Whitehead attended Florida State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She went on to Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., to earn her master’s degree in dentistry. Finishing in the top of her class, Dr. Whitehead was inducted as a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society.

After completing her master’s degree, Dr. Whitehead participated in a one-year general practice residency program at Palmetto Health Richland where she gained additional clinical experience before entering private practice. Dr. Whitehead is a member of the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, the Greater Columbia Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

“According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the number of South Carolinians who get their teeth cleaned annually is below the national average,” said Andrew Schweiger, practice manager. “South Lake Family Dental works to combat that statistic by continuing to grow to better serve our communities. We’re pleased that Dr. Whitehead has joined our team and that she’s as passionate as we are about great dental care.”

It’s important to make sure to schedule regular dental check-ups early to avoid uncomfortable procedures. Generally, children should have their first trip to the dentist about six months after their first tooth emerges.
