South University awards master's level criminal justice degrees for the first time

US Senator Jim DeMint will address the Class of 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – June 22, 2012 – South University will confer degrees on251 students on Saturday, June 23 at 11:30 a.m. at the Koger Center forthe Arts in Columbia. United States Senator Jim DeMint will deliver thecommencement address.

Degrees will be awarded at the associate, bachelor’s or master’s levelsin 19 programs, including the first graduates of South University’sMaster of Science in Criminal Justice in Columbia. Other areas of studyto award degrees include business administration, informationtechnology, graphic design, health sciences, healthcare administration,legal studies, medical assisting, nursing and professional counseling.Thirty-seven percent of the graduates are earning master’s-leveldegrees, 48 percent are earning bachelor’s-level degrees, and 15 percentare earning associate-level degrees.

The Class of 2012 is well prepared to face the challenging demands oftoday’s ever changing workplace, said Gregory Shields, president ofSouth University. Equipped with the skills and education that are inhigh demand today, I am confident that the Class of 2012 will overcomeany challenges they may face as they embark on the start of their newcareers.
