South University Graphic Design students win at the Midlands ADDY Awards Gala

COLUMBIA, SC – February 24, 2012 – South University Graphic Designstudentshave won multiple awards at this year’s American Advertising Federationof the Midlands ADDY Awards Gala, held Feb. 18 in Columbia. The winnersare:

  • Jabari Briggs, Student Gold ADDY, poster category
  • Terrell Wescott, Student Gold ADDY, mixed media campaign category
  • Giovanni DiFeterici, Student Silver ADDY, logo category
  • Bryan Knox, Student Silver ADDY, poster category
  • Randi Werner, Student Silver ADDY, animation category

The winners are current students in the Bachelor of Science in GraphicDesign program except DiFeterici, who graduated from the program inDecember. Their award-winning work can be seen on South University’sFlickr photostream at www.flickr.com/photos/south_university.

Hard work has paid off for these deserving students, said GraphicDesign Program Chair James Dahm. The continued success our studentshave had in award competitions speaks well of the entire Graphic Designprogram and South University.

At last year’s ADDY awards ceremony, four South University students tookhome a total of four gold awards and a Special Judges Award. Inaddition, two students were honored with awards at the annualAIGA-sponsored InShow in November 2010.

Student designers in the ADDYs compete with other school entries fromthe Columbia area. The Columbia awards are sponsored by the AmericanAdvertising Federation of the Midlands. The 2012 award ceremony,celebrating work from
2011, represent the best creative design in print, broadcast,interactive and student categories. This year’s theme was The AmazingAdventures of Addyman & the Awesome Advertising Federation.

The ADDY competition is judged by a panel of design and communicationsexperts. The American Advertising Federation promotes local and regionalaward shows nationwide, and gold award winners move from localcompetitions to district, or regional, shows. Regional winners then takepart in a
national ADDYs competition.


About the Graphic Design Program

The Graphic Design program offers degrees at the bachelor and associatelevels that are designed to teach the techniques and principles ofvisual communication in advertising and graphic design through courseson fundamental design and digital graphics. The bachelor’s level programprovides students with a broad background in general education,advanced theoretical graphic design concepts and practical applications.Traditional and computer-based techniques are incorporated into thecurriculum, and coursework emphasizes development of professional-leveltechnical skills, reasoning, and problem solving.
