January 16, 2017

Southeastern Freight Lines, the leading provider of regional less-than-truckload (LTL) transportation services, announced Michael Owings has been promoted to director of corporate planning.

Owings has served as assistant director within the Corporate Planning Department since 2009, playing a key role in designing and managing high-value system projects that span across departments and allow Southeastern to easily integrate with external resources.

With more than 16 years of experience with the Southeastern family, Owings has advanced his career from the company’s first database administrator, holding positions as software engineer and senior software engineer. He helped drive several of the legacy systems, such as Synergy and Driver CDU, to completion.

“During his time with Southeastern, Owings has become a black belt at managing complex projects and is also effective at educating our customers on the latest technologies,” said Woody Lovelace, senior vice president of corporate planning & development, Southeastern Freight Lines. “Michael understands our company’s mission and we are confident he will find continued success in his new role.”

Owings graduated with a degree in computer science and sociology from Furman University, where he also played football for four years. Continuing his active lifestyle, Owings is now an avid cross-fit participant. He lives in Columbia, South Carolina, with his wife, Nila, and four sons.
