Southern Exposure New Music Series presents Yarn/Wire: Re/Actions – March 23

March 12, 2018

The last Southern Exposure concert of the season is March 23

A force in the contemporary classical music scene since their founding in 2005, Yarn/Wire, a quartet of two percussionists and two pianists known for their adventurous repertoire and consummate artistry, cemented their stellar international reputation with a first-prize finish in the open division of the University of Michigan’s “M Prize” competition in 2016.  Their Southern Exposure show, “Re/Actions,” is comprised of colorful, dramatic works written for expressly for Yarn/Wire by composers Alex Mincek, Enno Poppe, and Misato Mochizuki.  This trio of recent pieces reacts in disparate ways to both the world at large and the special challenges and opportunities presented by Yarn/Wire’s unusual personnel.

The free concert takes place on Friday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m at USC School of Music Recital Hall (813 Assembly Street). Arrive early for this popular series as seats fill to capacity.

The Program:

Alex Mincek (American, b. 1975), Pendulum VI: Trigger (2010)

Enno Poppe (German, b. 1969), Feld (2017)

Misato Mochizuki (Japanese, b. 1969), Le monde de rondes et carrés (2015)

This Southern Exposure concert features visual art by Croatian-born, Columbia-based artist Vedran Dubnjakovic. Works by Dubnjakovic will be on display in the USC Music Library, School of Music second floor, during the weeks surrounding the concert.
