Spangler Fired as Presbyterian Football Coach

April 22, 2021

In a move greeted with shock and anger, Presbyterian College athletics director Rob Acunto fired head football coach Tommy Spangler after the Blue Hose finished the spring season with the first winning season since the fall of 2014.

The Blue Hose finished 4-3, including a 29-24 upset of Pioneer Football League champion Davidson.
After the story broke on Monday, April 19, the PC sports communications office issued a 3-paragraph release on Tuesday of Spangler, popular in both the community and among members of the team.

The release declared that PC would make no public comment on the matter unti the hiring of a new coach to replace Spangler, who served separate tenures at Presbyterian as both defensive coordinator and head coach.
