May 7, 2021

Spartanburg Community College celebrated approximately 350 graduating students at the college’s second annual graduation parade, sponsored by Vic Bailey Automotive, on Thursday, May 6, at the SCC Giles Campus in Spartanburg at 10:00 am.

Degrees, diplomas and certificates were awarded to the 2021 graduating students poised to continue their education or begin work in high-growth, high-demand careers. Participants include local high school students who are part of the Viking Early College and the Spartanburg County Early College High School.

“I am very proud of our graduating students for their dedication and steadfast devotion to their studies during this pandemic,” said Dr. G. Michael Mikota, SCC’s president. “Through our safety, communications and continuity, we together have made it to this point. I am so proud of each and every one of our students, and I look forward to hearing about their many successes in the future. Congratulations to our SCC graduates.”

Grand marshal, Fred Cunningham, anchor, WSPA TV News Channel 7, led the parade, followed by marshals, SCC President Dr. G. Michael Mikota, and SCC Commission Chair, Sonny Anderson. The parade procession featured grand marshals riding in new automobiles from Vic Bailey Automotive as well SCC graduates, their family, friends and even their pets weaving through the Giles Campus in decorated cars and trucks. SCC faculty and staff welcomed and celebrate graduates along the parade route.

“Vic Bailey Automotive is thrilled to celebrate our local graduates. This past academic year was a challenging one, yet these students persevered. We have no doubt they will go on to do amazing things. Our only hope is that they stick around to pour all their talent into the Spartanburg community,” says Leslie Bailey Calicutt.
