Receives Donation from AT&T

SPARTANBURG, SC – January 23, 2012 – AT&T South Carolina donated$110,000 to Spartanburg Community College (SCC) to fund infrastructurerenovations for the Center for Business & EntrepreneurialDevelopment (CBED), a business incubator located at SCC’s Tyger RiverCampus in Duncan, S.C.

“We’re grateful to AT&T for helping us to continue the innovativeprograms offered at the Center for Business and EntrepreneurialDevelopment,” said Mike Forrester, SCC’s director of economicdevelopment and interim director of CCE. ”

AT&T plays a major role in the success of our county’s economicdevelopment. Their contribution will allow SCC to continue fosteringentrepreneurial development and business growth in our area, while alsomaking our region more competitive for new industry and jobs.”CBED helpsentrepreneurs and businesses launch, build, expand and reorganizesuccessful companies. Located in a foreign trade zone, along the I-85corridor on Highway 290 in Duncan, the 363,000 square foot Centercurrently offers the following programs and services:


  • Soft Landings Program – providing furnished office space and basicoffice services to qualifying foreign or domestic companies seeking tostart new operations in Spartanburg County.
  • Small Business Incubator – assisting new businesses in the earlystart-up phase and existing businesses that are re-tooling orreorganizing for greater success by offering workspace and basic officeservices.
  • Workforce Employment Services – providing temporary office andtraining space to qualifying companies while aiding in the hiringprocess from advertising job postings and pre-screenings to pre- andpost-employment training.
  • Special Projects – assisting business and industry partners with space for beta testing, training or storing inventory.

The CBED opened in 2006 and has since served 3Pec, Benore Logistics,EchoStar, Exel Logistics, Fairway Outdoor Advertising, Jankel TacticalSystems, Jeffreys Manufacturing Solutions, Integrated CombustionSolutions, Lear Seating, Master Precision Global, MAU (hiring agency forBMW), Sterling Contract Packaging, TFE Logistics Group, and Wetekam.

CBED’s business and academic partners include Clemson UniversityInternational Center for Automotive Research, readySC, Service Corps ofRetired Executives, Small Business Development Center, S.C. EmploymentSecurity Commission, S.C. Department of Commerce, S.C. Launch andUniversity of South Carolina Upstate. In 2011, CBED partnered with theGeorge Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics at USCU andthe Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce to share resources to better assisttheir business clients.
