Spartanburg Regional Foundation Grant Provides for Medical Equipment

July 28, 2014

SPARTANBURG, SC – New equipment will enable nurses at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind to respond to medical emergencies more quickly thanks to a grant from the Spartanburg Regional Foundation. The equipment will also be used on a daily basis to monitor students’ vital signs more accurately and efficiently.

TCheck-Presentation-Photohe Spartanburg Regional Foundation grant of $4,313 will enable the school to purchase two portable vital signs diagnostic stations. The stations encompass three monitoring functions in one portable device providing for more precise measurements in less time and faster response times in emergencies.

“Thankfully, medical emergencies are infrequent, but it is important to have state-of-the art, reliable equipment readily available,” said Travis Durham, the school’s director of health and related services. “Many of our students require ongoing medical attention, and the equipment will be a great help on a daily basis.” The school provides nursing services and an on-call physician 24 hours a day through two Health Centers located on the Spartanburg Campus.

“We are very appreciative to the Spartanburg Regional Foundation for their continuing support of our school,” said Ann Akerman, chief executive officer of The Walker Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. “The new monitoring equipment is one of many ways the Spartanburg Regional Foundation has supported the school in recent years and we are very grateful for their compassion and responsiveness to the medical needs of our community.”
