Spinx donations impact Greenville Tech

GREENVILLE, SC – April 11, 2011 – Stewart Spinks and his familyhave established a permanent endowed scholarship at Greenville Technical College with a $100,000 gift. The gift will create five scholarshipsvalued at $1,000 each to be awarded each year. Scholarships will begiven to employees of the Spinx Company and their families, withrecipients selected by a scholarship committee at the college.

In addition, the Spinx Company has donated a truck valued at $22,000 tothe college¹s Truck Driver Training program. This gift allows thecollege to ensure a fleet of vehicles is available to give students thehands-on skills they need to be successful when they leave the nine-week program. Thanks to this gift, the program has 19 tractors and 26trailers available for student training.

Stewart Spinks founded Spinx Company in 1972. Beginning with a homeheating oil delivery service and one convenience store, the company hasgrown to 67 convenience stores in the Carolinas, employing over 700people.

Bob Howard, president of the Greenville Tech Foundation, said it isfitting that a company whose slogan is Making Life Easier would give a gift that makes life easier and better for others. With this gift they are making life better for the individuals receiving these scholarships and training with this equipment, Howard said. We are very grateful.
