Spirit Communications Park to host S.C. American Legion baseball championships

Columbia’s Spirit Communications Park next week will host the S.C. American Legion state championship baseball tournament for the first time.
Four teams will compete in the tournament July 25-27. Game times are:
- Wednesday, July 25: 4 pm and 7 pm
- Thursday, July 26: 7 pm
- Friday, July 27: 4 pm and 7 pm* (*if necessary)
As of today, eight teams remain in the playoffs: Camden (Midlands), Sumter (Midlands), Florence (Coastal), Goose Creek/Charleston (Coastal), Gaffney (Piedmont), Fort Mill (Piedmont), Greenwood (Upstate), and Chapin/Newberry (Upstate).
Organizers hope the new tournament venue – a 9,000-seat stadium which hosts the Columbia Fireflies – will help raise the profile of American Legion baseball and all it has to offer.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. The winner and runner-up of the championship tournament will advance to regional championship competition in Asheboro, N.C. next month.
