State Delegation Opens Search for Laurens County Veterans Affairs Director
June 17, 2026The Laurens County State Delegation has begun the search to fill the position of Veterans Affairs Director. This critical role serves Laurens County’s veteran community and is appointed by the State Delegation. Both the Director and staff are employees of Laurens County.
The position was officially posted on June 9, 2026, and applications will be accepted through June 30, 2026. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply via the Laurens County Government website, Laurenscountysc.gov, where the full job description and application instructions are available.
Delegation Chairman Representative Mark Willis stated, “Following the close of the application period, the Laurens County State Delegation will conduct interviews and select the successful candidate.” He also shared, “Our Veterans Affairs Office staff continues to offer excellent service to our veterans and their families during this transition.”
The Veterans Affairs Director oversees the daily administrative and programmatic operations of the county’s Veterans Affairs office. The role leads a team dedicated to serving veterans and ensuring they receive the federal, state and local benefits to which they are entitled, including health care, pensions, education and housing assistance.
Responsibilities include helping veterans and their dependents determine eligibility for compensation, pension, insurance, hospitalization and outpatient treatment benefits; preparing and submitting claims and appeals to the Veterans Affairs Regional Office and the Board of Veterans Appeals; conducting interviews; maintaining case files; and participating in conferences with veterans organizations and federal and state officials on matters affecting the welfare of veterans.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree and seven to ten years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preference is given to applicants who are active military or honorably discharged personnel.
