State Treasurer Curtis Loftis reveals his latest list of unclaimed funds

Channeling his inner Halloween spirit, State Treasurer Curtis Loftis has a scared up a list of South Carolinians with “spooky names” that are owed unclaimed money.

“No tricks, just treats this Halloween from the State Treasurer’s Office,” said Treasurer Loftis. “It’s frighteningly easy to see if you or anyone you know is due unclaimed money. Simply visit our website at treasurer.sc.gov and click on Unclaimed Property to begin your search.”

Currently the State Treasurer’s Office has more than $700 million in unclaimed property across the state. Millions of dollars are transferred to the program annually by companies that cannot locate the owners. Here are just a few South Carolina residents with unclaimed funds that made our annual “Spooky Names” list:

  • Norma J. Bates of Hilton Head Island
  • Michael Myers of Florence
  • Zombie Bobs Pizza of Mt. Pleasant
  • Mary Hannibal of Lamar
  • Edna D. Fear of Georgetown
  • Kiondra Witcher of Anderson
  • Monster Spider Jump of Spartanburg
  • Suzanne Bone of Charleston
  • Sharon M. Gore of West Columbia
  • Debra Graves of Fort Mill
  • Bloody Point Country Club of Daufuskie Island
  • Debbie Die of Central

Examples of the types of property covered by the program include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, unclaimed insurance proceeds and forgotten utility deposits. The State Treasurer’s Office serves as custodian of unclaimed funds and holds them until claimed by the rightful owners.
