Stephanie Yarbrough Appointed to SC Venture Capital Authority Board

CHARLESTON, SC – March 19, 2009 –  Stephanie Yarbrough, a Special Counsel with Nexsen Pruet’s Banking & Finance Group in Charleston, has been appointed to the S.C. Venture Capital Authority Board of Directors by SC Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell.

Yarbrough focuses her practice on the areas of economic development, banking and finance, and corporate law.

Before joining Nexsen Pruet, Yarbrough served as Director of Economic Development for the City of Charleston. In that position, she implemented programs aimed at job creation and retention through efforts in business finance, marketing, small business development, business retention and expansion, technology transfer, and real estate development.

Yarbrough previously worked for Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice, PLLC in the corporate and securities practice group.   While there, she advised public companies, their boards and their audit, compensation, and corporate governance committees regarding compliance with the federal securities laws, Sarbanes-Oxley, and related matters.

Yarbrough earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston, an M.P.A. from the University of Charleston, and her law degree from the Southern Methodist University School of Law.

Created by the legislature in 2005, the Venture Capital Authority is a seven-member board that is made up of members selected by the governor, the president pro tem of the Senate, and the speaker of the House.  The board has access to $50 million of South Carolina tax credits, which serve as collateral for private institutional lenders. These lenders extend capital to designated investment professionals who in turn invest in South Carolina companies.
