Steven Crump named interim VP and chief financial officer

June 12, 2018

Clemson University President James P. Clements announced Monday that Steven H. Crump has been named interim vice president and chief financial officer, effective immediately, as the university begins its search for a permanent successor for Executive Vice President Brett Dalton, who leaves the university June 30 to begin a new role at Baylor University.

Crump, a 1978 graduate of Clemson, has served as associate vice president and controller since 2014. He joined Clemson in 1990 following a career in public accounting and had served as associate controller from 1992 until the time of his promotion in 2014.

“Steve has done an outstanding job as part of the leadership team in our finance organization, and brings a deep understanding of the university’s complex financial structure and operations,” Clements said. “I appreciate his willingness to help guide the university through this important transition.”

As controller, Crump oversees activities related to student financial services, research grants and contracts, cost analysis and reporting, treasury-related services and tax reporting, as well as general accounting, financial reporting and payroll services. In his new role, Crump will have expanded responsibility for all aspects of the university’s finance organization, which is part of Dalton’s portfolio.

“I am honored by the trust placed in me by President Clements and the Executive Leadership Team to take on this additional responsibility,” Crump said. “Brett Dalton has built a high-performing finance and operations team, and I am confident we will continue to serve the university well during this transition period.”

The search to identify a permanent successor for Dalton will begin in the near future. Further details on the search will be provided as they become available.
