Stewart, an interdisciplinary design, engineering and planning firm, announced today it is expanding its local service offerings with two new hires in structural engineering and larger office space – now located at 717 Lady Street in Columbia.
Among the new hires is James “Vince” Williams, PE, SE, who will serve as manager of structural engineering focused on The Palmetto State. Williams brings 30 years of experience in the design of structures spanning from Upstate to the Lowcountry and throughout the Southeast.
“Vince will play a key role in continuing to grow our service capabilities,” said Frank Mundy, vice president and market leader of Stewart in South Carolina. “He has made a long-standing impact on the state, working on a variety of structures including entertainment arenas, municipal centers, office buildings, medical centers and educational buildings from middle schools to college campuses.”
As manager of structural engineering, Williams’ primary responsibilities include managing the office’s structural team, providing structural design for various project types, as well as overseeing overall project management, business development and client relations. He will report to Chris Herron, senior vice president and structural engineering practice leader at Stewart.
Williams most recently served as department head of structural programs at a Columbia-based engineering firm, where he supervised structural engineers, technicians and drafters across six corporate offices. Previous to that he owned his own firm for 22 years, responsible for all aspects of a project from marketing to design to inspections. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural design from The Citadel.
