Straight Street Youth Center Launches Clothing Closet to Support Local Community

March 22, 2024

In a heartwarming initiative aimed at supporting the needs of the local community, Straight Street Youth Center in Laurens has announced the launch of its new Clothing Closet. This endeavor is set to provide essential clothing items to those in need, including the youth who come to the center and anyone else in the community who needing assistance.

Van Tumblin, Director of Straight Street Youth Center, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Our first concern is for our kids that come to Straight Street each weekend. We want them to be able to get clothing if needed, but it will be for anyone in the community that may need clothing!” He emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to essential items and stressed the community-oriented nature of the Clothing Closet.

The initiative not only welcomes clothing donations in good condition but also encourages contributions of hygiene items, which are equally vital for maintaining personal well-being. “We will ask that you only take what you need,” Keri Tumblin added, highlighting the importance of responsible distribution of resources. “As we build up the Clothing Closet, we hope to be able to offer all the sizes, when available!”

The Clothing Closet will be a free resource for the community, operating on the last Tuesday of each month, starting March 26th, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Straight Street Youth Center located at 220 West Main Street in Laurens.

For those willing to contribute or seeking further information, Van and Keri Tumblin welcome inquiries and donations. Inquiries can be sent to [email protected]. Donations of clothing or hygiene items can be dropped during open hours – Friday and Saturday from 7:00 – 11:00 pm.

Together, the community can make a meaningful impact, one small act of kindness at a time.
